STATION COOK – Bulka Station (130kms from Fitzroy Crossing)

Summary:

Yougawalla Pastoral Company is an aggregation of cattle stations across the incredible Kimberley region.

The role of Station Cook – Bulka Station offers a great opportunity to

join an exciting industry leading company. Reporting to the Station Managers you will required to plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals for staff, guests and contractors in the station kitchen. This will be a busy position and requires a can-do attitude. The position may be required to fulfil some domestic duties such as preparing rooms for guests.

Station Cook Responsibilities

Meals —–

  • Develop nutritious, enjoyable and efficient menus within budgets.
  • Prepare meals for 15-20 staff Monday-Saturday, with Sunday off unless required.

Meals include:

  • Breakfast (1-2 mornings per week)
  • Smoko
  • Lunch (sandwiches and fridge stocked with food that staff are able to grab and go)
  • Dinner
  • Prepare suitable meals in advance of taking days off as required.
  • Provide and maintain tea and coffee making facilities.
  • Opportunity to cook out on camp for 2-3 weeks, if interested.

Stores & Supplies —–

  • Maintain stock levels to ensure sufficient supplies and undertake stores ordering fortnightly.
  • Collect stores from the end of the road, 45km once per fortnight.
  • Ensure food is stored hygienically and in a manner that maintains peak condition.
  • Bag and label meat cuts for freezing after butchering.
  • Regularly defrost freezers and refrigerators.
  • Dispose of rubbish regularly.

Maintenance & Management —–

  • Maintain the kitchen, serving areas, dining room, cool room & store room in a clean, tidy and hygienic state including sweep & mop daily.
  • Maintain electrical equipment, cooking equipment and utensils so that they remain clean and in good order.
  • Report any maintenance issues.

Homestead duties —–

  • Keep spare rooms clean and linen washed in preparation for guests.
  • Feeding of chickens, pigs and poddy calves.
  • Sharing in moving of sprinklers around the garden, mowing if required.
  • Option to look after veggie garden if interested

Health and Safety —–

  • Maintain food handling and health and safety standard requirements under the Food Act 2008.
  • Support and contribute to a positive health and safety culture.
  • Comply with all requirements of work health and safety legislation and station health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions.

People —–

  • maintaining a high level of communication and liaison with our customers, management and other team members.
  • Contribution to a valued team environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience with basic knife skills, cooking methods, and kitchen equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to withstand hot temperatures and work in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role or food service establishment.
  • Qualifications in food service or preparation
  • Current first aid certificate
  • Genuine passion for cattle and station life
