The Role

Crown is the ultimate destination for dining experiences, offering a vast array of casual options to premium settings. We have something to suit everyone’s tastes.

Nobu is renowned for its Japanese-inspired cuisine, and joining the culinary team as a Commis Chef would be a fantastic experience. As a Commis Chef at Nobu, you’ll have the chance to learn from some of the best chefs in the business. Responsibilities include preparing and cooking food under the supervision of senior chefs and ensuring proper food storage. Attention to detail is crucial in creating exceptional dishes that delight guests.

In this role, you’ll provide joyful experiences through genuine care for guests, as well as:

  • Work closely with team members across the kitchen.
  • Assist senior chefs in food preparation and plating.
  • Ensure all dishes meet Nobu’s high standards of quality and presentation.

About You

You’ll bring the following:

  • Specialty in Japanese cuisine – Highly Desirable but not essential, including:
    • Knife skills for sashimi and sushi preparation.
    • Knowledge of traditional Japanese cooking techniques (e.g., tempura, yakitori, robatayaki)
    • Ability to prepare and season rice for sushi
    • Understanding of Japanese flavor profiles and ingredients (e.g., miso, soy, mirin, dashi).
    • Experience in handling raw fish and seafood safely.
    • Familiarity with plating aesthetics typical of Japanese fine dining.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn from senior chefs.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role:
Certificate III & IV in Cookery
